Through the perspective of works of art which is more than just a word “Art for relaxation” because here we will try to learn about ourselves. Know your emotions and discuss problems with art therapist ‘ May-Thitaree Arunwet’, 28 years old, a petite woman whose face is always smiling. Art without limits of gender, age, occupation, including various forms of problems. The surrounding atmosphere is filled with lush green trees that are not too tall or too big. Next to the main road of Thonburi. The interior is decorated with clean white walls that are pleasing to the eye.

T.REST ART THERAPY STUDIO is located at Wongwian Yai, Thonburi side, hidden under a small house covered with trees. Next to the main road where cars pass by. Surrounding area It is a big tall building. It can be said to be a wonderful place hidden beneath the chaotic city. But when exploring around I wondered where the name T.REST came from. Ready to turn and see the logo of the shop, which has the shape of a large blue circle with the letter T (T) cut in the middle.
When returning to the beginning Mr. May told us that he graduated with a degree in psychology. and have the intention of wanting to study further Therefore, I came to study in the field of art therapy. who do not want to study to become an art therapist But I want to study something that can help me understand myself more. “Once we started studying, we saw that it was useful. These things can benefit us. Look at the broader picture We can bring this to others. How can you help others? So that’s the reason I want to work here. The cause works here. It’s like having a question: Where do we have to act in Thai society? It’s rare for people to open up about working with mental health. There is quite a bit of space around mental health. different from abroad And we want to work with a variety of groups. It coincided with the fact that we had problems with regular work before. So I feel like there is only one path where we can do whatever we dream of. is to open your own studio,” Khun May tells us about the beginning of opening this art therapy studio.
“T.Rest when thinking is very difficult. The idea came from the logo first. My heart at that time wanted it to be a circle first in terms of shape. Circles are anything but fixed. In therapy, circles are like the circle of life. And we felt that we wanted to add our own name to T (Thitaree) and when we put them together it became a tree. (circle + letter T) and we sit and think further. We wanted it to be like a resting place, so we added the word Rest. When put together it becomes T.Rest, which means a place to stay. And in another way, it can be seen that the letter T is like a tree. Because the studio is surrounded by trees. Because we want the atmosphere for people who come to not feel stressed. Because many people think that when they come to therapy they must be stressed. Living in a narrow, opaque room, we want everyone to feel like they’re not here for therapy. But come stay at home.”

Art is not relaxation. But it’s just one tool that helps people open up and share their problems.
Coming to the Workshop stage, this time we tried to make a Re•tie, which is to tie cloth, rope, and yarn on a rope stretched on a square canvas in order to explore and understand the overall picture of our relationship (Your Relationships) from past experience Focus on the present perspective To lead to good planning in the future We at that time were in the process of searching for answers to life. Ms. May calmly explained to us how each step works. For us, it is considered a new and unique therapy activity that has never been done before. We choose each color of fabric we want. and the decorations you like in moderation The atmosphere at that time was nothing but emptiness. Ms. May sat quietly in the back, allowing herself to spend 60 minutes with herself. Each color of cloth used has a meaning from the present, past, and future, respectively. There was both pressure and stress because we were not good at art. and have never done an activity like this Therefore, the question arose: “Is art really relaxation?” Khun May replied to us that
“Art is more than just relaxation. Actually, if we talk about art A person who is good at art You probably think of it as relaxation. But if you use this word to speak to someone who is not good at it. or not familiar with will be seen as stressed Because of the art that we have been cultivated with You have to draw it beautifully. You have to draw correctly and you have to score. Therefore, we think that art is not a relaxation for some people. If art has a framework and rules, but when you put the word therapy at the end, Treatment is not fixed. Therapy is about getting to know each other. Go in and understand that person because that person can be anyone. The word anyone can be anyone. It means that everyone has individuality. Everyone is different. There is no fixed format. So when we add the word therapy after art So it became Making art has no wrong, no right, no clear form. Everyone can express themselves through art differently.”

“We are talking about psychology and art. Psychology is the study of human behavior. No matter what humans do, it’s all psychology. So you can have any problem. Because everyone has their own problems. But this time, the tool that each person uses is art. We use art in solving those problems, in pondering, or in finding answers to those problems. Asked what things can be used with this tool? Must answer that it can be used in every matter. But it depends on which perspective to use, how deep to use it, how to use it to explore. or used to go in and edit, manage, but differences or specialness There may be an additional point. Anything can become art. It’s not just about painting. Maybe modeling clay, tying rope, folding paper, or maybe sticking leaves on it. This can also be art. Like in everyday life It has a variety of stories. Various human behaviors Art therefore will answer the question in the sense that We can use art to address many of those behaviors.”

And it connects to the fact that we want it to be something that can easily happen in everyday life. You don’t want to spend a lot of money doing this often. May is sure no one wants to spend money on therapy. Or treat it? Everyone wants to spend their money on shopping and traveling, so we set prices where you can keep coming, keep coming, making it a place where people can do this without it being too much of a hassle.”

At this point the conversation was going smoothly. We asked Khun May: And how much problem do you have to have before you can come in for treatment? Or you can come in for advice…. Because we believe that each person’s problems are different. Some people may think that the problems encountered are minor. But another part may see it as a big deal. Khun May then proceeded to tell the story.
“For those who come, there are problems ranging from very small issues to very big issues, but we probably haven’t determined whose issues are big or small. It should be the perspective of the person who comes for treatment. If it’s considered a problem then it makes him feel uncomfortable. It is assumed that you are able to come in and chat in order to resolve this matter. So May sees that problems, no matter how big or small, It depends on each person. But it might be a little more complicated, it would be a patient with depression. Or is it bipolar? or other mental illnesses also come to receive services But this group of people must see a doctor. and must take medicine regularly Eat to be calm first.
